Dr. Mary Darden-Robinson is a seasoned consultant and trainer with over 20 years of expertise in organizational assessment and planning within the mental health and substance use fields. Based in the Hampton Roads, VA area, she excels in enhancing organizational effectiveness and developing tailored training programs that empower teams and individuals.
Her background as a clinician informs her approach, allowing her to emphasize overall wellness and resilience while supporting adolescents and families. Dr. Darden-Robinson's eclectic therapeutic style is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), enabling her to address critical issues such as healthy relationships, self-care, and mental health challenges.
In her consulting role, Dr. Darden-Robinson has collaborated with various entities, including underserved and justice-involved populations, the Department of Human Services, and the Family Assessment and Planning Team (F.A.P.T.). Her extensive experience spans clinical services in residential, academic, and community settings, as well as in clinical environments specializing in addiction pharmacotherapy.
A Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.), she also holds certifications as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (C.S.A.C.) and a Master Addiction Counselor (M.A.C.). Dr. Darden-Robinson is a Human Services Board-Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) and a Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (L.S.A.T.P.). Furthermore, she is SAMHSA GAINS Center-trained to facilitate the "How Being Trauma-Informed Improves Criminal Justice System Responses" seminar and serves as a Master Trainer for the A.C.E. Interface Program. As a Clinical Supervisor approved by the Virginia Board of Counseling, she mentors Residents in Counseling and various trainees in L.S.A.T.P., L.M.F.T., C.S.A.C., and CSAC-A.
Dr. Darden-Robinson earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Services Counseling with a minor in Psychology from Old Dominion University, followed by a Master of Arts in Community Counseling from Norfolk State University and a Doctor of Psychology from Walden University.
